A guided tour that, in an ironic and provocative way, questions what art is, who produces it and who it is made for, inviting visitors to follow the instructions of an unexpected “do-it-yourself” experience. Starting from a questioning of the idea that “every human being is an artist”, the exhibition reflects with irony on the concept of art, on the means of production and on the ideas of factory, product and consumer, drawing visitors into the reading of the works through a kind of “Do it yourself” recipe book. ‘Painting is Easy. Do It Yourself!’ is an exhibition of works from the “la Caixa” Foundation Contemporary Art Collection, curated by João Maria Gusmão, whose point of departure is a 1989 photograph by Antoni Muntadas showing a hardware store advertisement with the slogan ‘Pintar es fácil! Hágalo usted mismo’.
