Full description from the source
Collection in Series, a workshop devised by the artists Rita Cachão and Tiago de Sá, offers an introduction to screen printing based on the collection of the Gulbenkian Museum. A variety of objects provide the initial inspiration, from Art Nouveau books to Iznik ceramics and French goldsmiths’ work. The workshop explores the relationship between figurative and abstract graphic elements, often arranged in patterns. Participants are introduced to screen printing through processes such as stencilling and halftone photographic printing. The exercises culminate in four large-format finished works. Lasting six hours in all, spread over two days, the workshop is a chance to explore the serial nature of screen printing and to forge new relationships with the works in the Museum’s collection.
